T.E.R.A.
That word held fascination with every student at NMIMT. They blew things up, they did weapons testing, they had surplus. Many a Tech student did the midnight stroll, avoided the guards, to return with a parachute or weather balloon. Or perhaps a piece of wartime electronics.

T.E.R.A. employed many tech students for various work-study positions. None of which were clear exactly what the students would be doing for the agency. There was the transfer of 30 mm Hispania Suiza explosive rounds that cost a student their life, when a plane flew over T.E.R.A.’s closed airspace and radioed to land at Socorro airfield. The radio frequency was the same as the detonator… It detonated the round.
Since the airspace around the facility is closed, it is covered by radar and film. Which brings us to the piece of film my friend described to me.
This piece of film lasts several minutes. It shows “M” Mountain in the background, when suddenly a lenticular "lens" shaped metallic craft appears at a high rate of speed. It stops on a dime and hovers above one of the torpedo test sites. The security at T.E.R.A. called Holliman airbase, which deployed 2 F-16 fighters. These fighters are located at Alamogordo, NM and can be over Socorro in mere minutes. They come screaming into frame, and just as they appear, the disc zips out of range. In one frame it is there, then gone. The fighters are tracked via camera, and circle back to Alamogordo. Just as they leave frame, the disc is back hovering over the test site. This game of “cat and mouse” lasted 7 minutes, according to my friend. The fighter jets could never match the speed of the disc.
I verified this report thru several employees of T.E.R.A. back when I was a student. One of which was still employed by the Navy while attending school at Socorro.
